Presentation Summary:
Applying Basic EMDR protocol to working with Complex PTSD and Dissociation can be challenging, intimidating, and ineffective. Advanced training and protocols are needed to adapt the AIP Model and 8 phases of EMDR in response to C-PTSD and Dissociation. These more complex diagnoses impact the brain’s memory network and processing abilities differently than recent or single incident trauma. Adapted protocols can improve client tolerance for EMDR and overall treatment outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
- Participant will be able to identify symptoms, assessment tools, and diagnostic criteria for Complex PTSD, Dissociation, and Dissociative Disorders
- Participant will receive a review of AIP Model and 8 phases of EMDR
- Participant will be able to identify necessary considerations and interventions for stabilization and EMDR readiness in phases 1 & 2
- Participant will be able to identify helpful interventions for integrating EMDR with other modalities necessary for working with Complex PTSD & Dissociation in Phases 3-8
- Participant with gain understanding for navigating stuck points and defining realistic treatment goals for using EMDR with Complex PTSD and Dissociation
